Clouds of Doping Doubts Hover over Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen’s Head

One world and one Olympics record has set 16 years old Chinese swmmer Ye Shiwen’s career
soaring past the clouds but worst thing that happened to her that she is under clouds of doubts of doping or genetic engineering but when she was consulted, the golden girl’s response was: “There’s absolutely no problem with doping. The Chinese team has always had a firm policy about antidoping.”

Shiwenwon the gold medal and smashed the world record in the 400-meter Individual Medley and set an Olympic record in the women’s 200-meter Individual Medley on Monday. She left the Aquatic Centre abuzz with her increasingly impressive times.

The first one to raise question openly was  John Leonard, an American and the executive director of the World Swimming Coaches Association, who said that her performances are "suspicious" and noted that it elicited "a lot of awful memories" of the Irish swimmer Michelle.

World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) says that a record 6,250 tests are being carried out at the Games and will be kept under observation for eight years. During his comments at the Opening Ceremony, International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge exhorted the athletes to stay above board when he said: “Reject doping. Respect you opponents. Remember that you are all role models. If you do that, you will inspire a generation.”

Leonard, meanwhile, expressed his doubts: “If there is something unusual going on in terms of genetic manipulation or something else, I would suspect over eight years' science will move fast enough to catch it,” Leonard said. “I have every faith that eventually if there is something there to be caught it will be caught. Right now all we can say is Olympic champion, world record holder, and watch out for history."

Despite all theworst fears, Shiwen insisted that her focus was unshaken: “I just carry on and try my best to win.”
