Yu Wenxia crowned Miss World 2012

A total of 116 contestants, the highest ever number to take part in the finals of Miss World 2012 but honour was to Crowning China’s Yu Wenxia, 23, a music  student,  The competition was held in Ordos, an Inner Mongolian city. Ordos provided Chinese an immense pleasure of  providing China's second ever Miss World.

The mostly Chinese audience erupted in cheers, and fireworks lit up the sky,
when it was announced that the home candidate, Yu Wenxia, had been awarded the coveted title during a glitzy final held in a mining city on the edge of the Gobi desert.

On a question why she should be crowned, Wen’s response was:
"When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky."

2011's Miss World Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela handed over her crown to Wen at a glittering
ceremony held in Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium in Beijing. Yu wants to become a music teacher. The first runner-up is Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and the second runner-up is Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia.

The final, watched by a worldwide TV audience of an estimated one
billion viewers, included a nod to the culture of Inner Mongolia, with a performance by a group of Mongolian musicians playing the erhu, a traditional two-stringed instrument.

Indian contender, Vanya Mishra could make only among top seven. Mishra was being touted as one of the probable winners and was expected to bring back the title home after a gap of more than a decade. Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra last won the title for India in 2000.

 A red ceremonial flag was passed over to representatives from the Southeast Asian resort island of Bali, hosts of the 2013 Miss World Final, during the ceremony.

 Venezuela has produced the most Miss Worlds, with six winners, while India and Britain claim five titles each.
