Joyous Obama joins Groovious Michelle in the White House after-party

The president and his wife Michelle threw a spectacular after-party at the
White House last night after attending two glitzy events celebrating his inauguration. Hundreds of high-profile guests attended the exclusive bash which finally came to a close at 3 a.m. Mr. Obama took on singer Usher in a Gangnam Style dance off.

Obama spent most of his time hugging guest while Michelle was seen shaking
curves in glamorous red Jason Wu gown to Beyonce's hit Single Ladies. Teenage daughter of singer Eric Benet, who performed at the event stated: 'Getting down on the dancefloor with the COOLEST crowd of people ever!!!' She added: 'After this, the President and Usher had a dance off to Gangnam style!!'
Obama had previously revealed to People magazine that he performs the dance - made famous by South Korean performer PSY - around his home to tease his daughters, 14-year-old Malia and 11-year-old Sasha, who hate the dance. His wife added the moves were 'a little embarrassing'.

Kelly Clarkson, who had performed at Obama's swearing-in ceremony that morning, tweeted just before midnight: 'Just partied at the White House. I kid you not, Michelle Obama stood up and got the party started...seriously cool First Lady.'

Katy Perry added: 'Just left the White House. All other parties from take
place at the White House.' Ahead of the dance-off, the party also hosted some live sets, including one by soul singer Janelle Monáe. Senator Claire McCaskill tweeted a picture of the performer and her band entertaining the crowd just before midnight, adding: 'Now we are rocking at the WH.'

After her performance, Monáe simply tweeted: 'WOW.'

The Obamas also threw an after-party after the president's first inauguration in 2009 - although it was a much quieter affair. After the Obamas left their final party at 12.45 a.m., Oprah Winfrey was among the select guests invited back to the White House to sip on champagne.

This year, it was not just the first family dancing into the early hours of the morning.

Will.I.Am and actresses Sophia Bush and Malin Ackerman were reportedly
seen dancing beside White House staffers at the 'Midnight Underground, a Chicago-style after-hours' party, which finally finished around 3 a.m.

President and Mrs Obama looked fresh-faced as they attended the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service at the National Cathedral with the Bidens, just hours after the party finished. Around 2,200 people streamed into the cathedral for the service.

Obama's impressive moves in the early hours of the morning came after his more demure public appearance alongside his wife earlier in the evening, when he attended two glitzy celebrations following his second inauguration.

The Obamas appeared on stage at the Washington Convention Center to wild cheering and thunderous applause from thousands of people. First Lady Michelle's choice of dress was finally revealed - a dramatic, red chiffon and velvet gown by Jason Wu. The designer had also created her dress for the 2008 ball.
Obama paid tribute to his wife saying that although he was often criticized
as President, 'nobody disputes the quality of the First Lady'. The couple then danced as Jennifer Hudson sang Al Green's Let's Stay Together.
